Americans End 2015 More Upbeat About Housing Market and Economy

Americans were generally more upbeat about the strength of housing market and the economy in December, according to Fannie Mae’s latest poll.

Fannie’s Home Purchase Sentiment Index increased 2.4 points to 83.2 in December as Americans felt better about their personal finances and the direction of the economy, Fannie said. The index was created in 2010, and returned to a high-water mark that was first reached three months earlier. Could that also impact the sentiment on housing market?

“Consumers ended the year on an improved note with regard to their income, job security, and overall economic outlook,” said Fannie’s Chief Economist Doug Duncan in a news release. Duncan added that a stronger economy could impact the housing market, create more demand for housing, but also cautioned that renters are facing higher rents and there aren’t enough starter homes for first-time buyers.
